Your Bridge to Campus, to Academics, to Success
The Bridge Program is an academic study program that offers the opportunity for international students to enroll in undergraduate courses in a wide variety of fields at the University of California, Davis—one of the major research universities in the United States. Bridge students earn University of California credit for the course work they complete satisfactorily. It is the perfect way to live the UC Davis experience and earn credits that can be applied to degree requirements at universities around the world.
This flexible program is designed to meet individual student needs through enrollment in a combination of course offerings. The program follows the quarterly academic schedule of campus—10 weeks of class followed by a week of exams—throughout the year. Students enroll through the International English and Professional Programs at UC Davis Extension. There are two tracks within the Bridge Program:
- the first includes Intensive English classes with up to eight (8) units of UC Davis classes
- the second places students primarily in UC Davis course work with no English classes (writing classes may be the exception)
How do I determine which Bridge Program track to take?
Students who apply with CBT scores of 213 or higher and no sub-scores under 21 qualify for the second track. They will be tested for writing to determine access to campus writing courses.
Students with no current CBT scores may take a placement test in order to demonstrate their English proficiency upon arrival at UC Davis. Those students who do not test at the advanced level will be advised to take the Intensive English Program as part of the first track of the Bridge Program. Those testing at the advanced level and who possess solid critical writing skills may need no further English instruction and may take full academic course loads. All students are then given individual counseling on how to construct a program that best suits their needs and academic background.
Bridge students have a choice of course offerings in nearly all of the colleges and departments of the university. As with all UC Davis students, enrollment in any course is on a space-available basis. Courses completed bear full UC Davis academic credit. Students should check with their home university for its transfer credit policies. Students may enroll on a quarter-by-quarter basis for up to a year—at a very reasonable cost.
Who can enroll in the Bridge Program?
The Bridge Program is designed to meet the needs of university-level students and professionals from around the world who have strong English language skills and excellent academic preparation, and who wish to take courses in their academic fields of specialization.
What is the status of Bridge students?
Bridge students are registered as full-time, nondegree students through International English and Professional Programs, UC Davis Extension. Bridge students have access to nearly all facilities and privileges available at UC Davis. These include such things as libraries, sports and recreational facilities, the Memorial Union, the Cowell Student Health Center, the Unitrans bus system and many more—sometimes with a small additional fee. The IEPP provides students with personal assistance and counseling on academic and visa issues, academic monitoring and support, and assistance in locating housing accommodations. Bridge students also have access to the computer labs and the UC Davis Extension Multimedia Resource Center.
